The WCPT Executive Committee held a productive meeting last week at the WCPT office in London. Highlights of the meeting include:
- The association from Togo was admitted to provisional membership of WCPT and will be presented for full membership at the next General Meeting.
- Nominations for positions on the International Scientific Committee were reviewed and appointments will be made later this month. We are extremely pleased with the number and calibre of the candidates who have put their names forward for the Chair and membership.
- Several regions, subgroups and member organisations have utilised WCPT congress documents, such as the call for abstracts, in planning their own events. The Executive Committee considered how it might further support regions in their events and will be looking at its documents with that in mind.
- Progress on the implementation of WCPT’s communications strategy was reviewed including World Physical Therapy Day activities, WCPT’s profile on social networks and our plans to update the WCPT website to make it more active and engaging. You will hear more about the website early in the new year.
- The role of WCPT in continuing professional development was explored and as a result the EC agreed to develop a portfolio of WCPT international CPD offerings and move towards being a recognised provider of continuing education units. This service will be particularly valuable for events such as the WCPT Congress.
- A draft WHPA statement on inter-professional collaborative practice was reviewed. The statement is still under discussion by the five members of WHPA before release.
- WCPT’s collaboration plan with WHO was considered. This plan is agreed every four years and is a requirement of WCPTs ongoing recognition by WHO. It is a means of highlighting the complementary activities of WCPT and WHO and identifying how the two organisations can share expertise and information and provide mutual support.
- A review of WCPT financial planning and reporting was received and support was given to the establishment of a finance committee providing increased expertise and support to WCPT.
- WCPT’s solicitor met with the EC to discuss trends in corporate governance and consider revision of the Articles of Association as well as establishing a company while retaining WCPT’s charitable status. WCPT is a charity registered in the UK with EC members serving as the charity’s trustees.
Following the meeting we prepared our first video highlighting outcomes from my perspective and those of two EC members. We hope this will be the first of many videos profiling the work of WCPT and hearing the perspective of all EC members and others
Best wishes
