biosketch: Silvia Gianola is a physiotherapist with a PhD in Public Health (University of Milano-Bicocca, Monza, Italy). She is the director of the Clinical Epidemiology Unit of IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio (Milan, Italy). In 2010, while a Master's degree, she was a student fellow at the Vrije Universiteit (Bruxelles, Belgium) under the supervision of Professor Erik Cattrysse with whom he started a prolific collaboration on physiotherapy research. In 2012, during his physiotherpy residency program, she spent 1 year at the Cochrane Italian Center based at the IRCCS Mario Negri (Milano, Italy) supervised by Professor Lorenzo Moja to acquire knowledge in systematic reviews and innovative methods of evidence synthesis. Since then, she has been actively involved in the Cochrane activities publishing systematic reviews within the Cochrane Musculoskeletal and the Cochrane Back and Neck Groups. She attended post-graduate advanced course on Systematic reviews and meta-analysis for the production of guidelines evidence-based methodology Cochrane (2013), Clinical research: guidelines for clinical practise (2017) and Advanced specialization course in Diagnostic Accuracy of systematic review and guidelines (2022) at the University of Milano. Furthermore, Dr. Gianola gained level I and level II certifications of the International Guideline Development Credentialing & Certification Program –INGUIDE (McMaster University and GIN) in 2021. She has been now attending the Master degree level II (expected 2024) on Methods and Data Analysis in Biomedical Research -MEDAL in Biomedical Research (University of Milano Bicocca, Italy). Her expertise lies in the design and creation of systematic reviews, oriented to summarize clinical trial findings using meta-analytic techniques, and the production of evidence based clinical guidelines with the GRADE approach, covering the pathway from knowledge production to its uptake in clinical practice. Since 2016, she has been actively involved in various "Clinical Research" courses at the University of Milan, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, University of Verona as adjunct Professor. In 2023 she obtains the National Scientific qualification as associate in the Italian higher education system, in the call 2021/2023 (Ministerial Decree n. 553/2021 and 589/2021) for the disciplinary field of 06/N1 - Technology and methodology in medicine and nursing sciences. Since 2019, she has been member of the national committee of the scientific society of AIFI (Associazione Italiana Fisioterapia) for the clinical research and the production of clinical practice guidelines. Currently, Dr. Gianola is collaborating as evidence reviewer for the National Center for Clinical Excellence, Quality and Safety of Care of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità for the production of national guidelines attending more than 35 guideline panels as Evidence Review Team on Major Trauma, Cardiovascular disease, Obesity clinical practice guidelines of Italian Minister of Health under the supervision of Dr. Primiano Iannone (Rome, Italy).
